This small power supply provides approximatley 5V and uses a USB port as power source.

To just use a straight USB cable as "power supply" is a potentialy high risk for your PC. This cable has a small SMD circuit which protects your computer against "mistakes". It's short circuit protection comes in around 200mA. A bright red LED goes on as soon as a short circuit is detected.

The short circuit protection in this power supply has a highly non linear internal resistance to protect the USB port of your computer.

This cable should be plugged directly into a USB port at the computer (not a passive hub).
